DENVER—More youth sports coaches would have to take concussion training under a bill that cleared the Colorado House Monday.

The bill requires middle-school and recreational coaches to take online training in how to recognize concussions. Several other states require concussion training to prevent brain injuries.

The House passed the measure 35-27 over the objections of some that the concussion training would unduly burden volunteer coaches in rural areas.

The bill requires a medical professional to clear a child to rejoin play after showing signs of a concussion. The House and Senate have adopted slightly different versions of the concussion bill. The chambers will have to agree on a final version before it can be signed into law.
