OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington state regulators approved on Monday the $10.6 billion merger of Qwest with Louisiana-based CenturyLink, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.
So far 19 of 20 required states have approved the merger. Approvals from regulators in Oregon and the Federal Communications Commission are still needed.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission imposed conditions on the deal, including that local residential rates would be capped for three years after the sale. The merger also will result in about $80 million to provide more broadband Internet coverage to rural customers, the News Tribune reported.
