A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries yesterday after she was hit by an SUV.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the girl and her adult baby sitter were walking westbound on 17th Avenue, according to Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department.

The girl was hit while attempting to cross 17th Avenue near St. Paul. The baby-sitter was not hit.

The driver of the SUV stopped and no citations have been issued, Jackson said.

“The driver got out and did what she could,” Jackson said.

The girl’s condition was not known.

The Denver Police Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the accident.
