The Flaming Lips, who closed out Avon’s Snowball Music Festival with a bang earlier this month, will return to Colorado to perform Pink Floyd’s psychedelic classic “Dark Side of the Moon.” That’s good news for fans who love the Oklahoma band’s Technicolor antics but have grown a little tired of the now-expected motions of their show. Even sweeter, endearing alt- rock weirdos Primus, led by rubber- limbed bassist Les Claypool, will co- headline. Tickets for the Aug. 3 concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($39.75-$44.75, Ticketmaster)
Kenny Chesney’s “Goin’ Coastal” tour will play a whopping 60 dates this summer, including a July 6 stop at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, as we first reported in January. This week promoters announced on-sale date and prices for the pop-country party, with tickets available at 10 a.m. today. ($49.50-$79.50, Ticketmaster)
Earth, Wind & Fire plays Red Rocks Amphitheatre regularly, and not just because singer Philip Bailey is from Denver. Still, this year is special for the legendary soul-funk act as it celebrates its 40th anniversary with a tour that takes it from California to Connecticut through late June — including a June 7 Red Rocks date. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($40.50- $70.50, Ticketmaster)
The Monkees aren’t exactly on the lips of every music fan in 2011, but the classic ’60s pop- rock act (created for the so-named TV show) has been known to reunite from time to time. This year’s version features members Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork — but not Michael Nesmith. The band will celebrate its 45th anniversary with a tour, including a July 5 show at the Paramount Theatre. Tickets are on sale. ($45-$65, TicketHorse)
Def Leppard’s live show these days is more homage to its former ’80s glory days than accurate representation of hair-metal staples such as “Animal” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” But the British band still knows how to throw a serious party, despite any performance shortcomings. The group returns to Comfort Dental Amphitheatre on Aug. 29. Tickets are on sale. ($40.50-$150, )
