GOLDEN, Colo.—High winds and technical problems with air support have been hindering firefighter’s efforts to contain a wildfire burning in the foothills west of Golden.
Officials say the air tanker called in to help has been grounded Monday because of communication problems. Another one was en route from Idaho to help fight the fire burning on over 700 acres.
A helicopter has also been grounded because of erratic winds.
Residents of 705 homes have been warned to be prepared to evacuate in case the fire spreads.
Firefighters have made progress containing the blaze on the east side to help prevent it from moving into a subdivision containing about 250 homes. They’re concentrating on the north side to keep it from spreading to Golden Gate Canyon.
The fire is about 15 percent contained.
