LONGMONT, Colo.—A small grassfire that broke out near Longmont has been contained.
The fire started Wednesday morning just east of U.S. Highway 36 and grew to 7 acres.
A pre-evacuation notice was sent out along a nearby road. Boulder County officials say a few structures were threatened but none were lost.
Twenty-five firefighters battled the fire and one was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
Also on Wednesday, Boulder County enacted a fire ban.
Boulder officials say the ban is in effect in unincorporated areas till hazardous fire conditions, like strong winds and low humidity, subside. All open fires and fireworks are prohibited.
At least four other counties have also enacted fire bans—Jefferson and Arapahoe in the Denver area and Kiowa and Cheyenne on the Eastern Plains.
