Police on Thursday were looking for two men who they said shot and killed two people and wounded three others in an east Denver neighborhood late Wednesday.

Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the shootings happened just before 11 p.m. at the Windsor Court Apartments, 900 S. Quince St., near Leetsdale Drive and Quebec Avenue.

When police arrived on the scene, they found three men and two women with gunshot wounds.

Jackson said one woman died at the scene and that a man died after being rushed to a hospital. The three other people also were taken to the hospital and were in critical condition, but Jackson said they were expected to survive.

None of the victims’ identities was released by police Thursday.

Before the shooting, two men entered an apartment and started a fight with one of the occupants.

At least one of the men started shooting inside the apartment, hitting the victims.

The gunmen then fled in an unknown direction. Some witnesses saw a small, dark vehicle leave the area after the shooting.

Detectives said the apartment appeared to have been targeted by the two gunmen.

Lester Uphan, 27, who has lived in an adjacent building for about six months, said he was watching television with his roommate when he heard the shots.

Uphan said it sounded like the shots were right next to him. He said he and his roommate continued watching TV and then police arrived on the scene.

Crime-scene tape and evidence markers still covered the scene Thursday as detectives investigated.

Anyone with information about the case can call the Denver Police Department at 720-913-2000 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
