Jaden McDonald, 10, and his father, Robert McDonald, both of Colorado Springs, died Tuesday evening in a fiery head-on crash near Durango that also killed the driver of the oncoming pickup.
Robert McDonald’s wife, Leslie, and his 12-year-old son Kellen were flown to hospitals in Albuquerque and Salt Lake City, Archer said. Both suffered life-threatening injuries, said Heather Cobler, Colorado State Patrol spokeswoman.
The family had been vacationing the past few days near Durango and were expected home on Wednesday.
A Chevrolet pickup driven by David Hooper, 51, was westbound on Colorado Highway 160 when it went into the oncoming lane, hitting the Toyota FJ Cruiser driven by Robert McDonald about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Cobler said. Both vehicles caught fire.
Hooper, of Cortez, died at the scene, Cobler said. Troopers are investigating the wreck.
