The Broncos on Friday were awarded a seventh- round pick in next month’s draft, bringing the team’s total picks to seven.

The NFL awarded 21 compensatory picks to make up for free-agent losses in 2010. The Broncos’ new pick is No. 246 overall. The Broncos also will pick at No. 2 in the first round, No. 36, No. 46 (from Miami in the Brandon Marshall trade), No. 67, No. 186 and No. 189.

Beitzel nets honor.

Northern Colorado men’s basketball standout Devon Beitzel was selected to the Lou Henson All-America Team. He was one of 25 midmajor players selected for the award, which does not distinguish between first-, second- or third-team selections. Beitzel ended his career last week with a 25-point performance in a loss against San Diego State in Northern Colorado’s first NCAA Tournament appearence. He finished his career with 1,584 points, the third-most in school history.

UW’s Murdock fails to advance.

University of Wyoming senior diver Mark Murdock placed 28th in the 3-meter preliminaries with a score of 313.05, not good enough to qualify for the finals at the NCAA swimming and diving championships in Minneapolis.

Murdock gets another chance today to make the finals — on the platform, perhaps his best event.

AFA gymnasts go back-to-back.

The Air Force men’s gymnastics team, ranked No. 9, claimed its second consecutive USAG national title at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships in Springfield, Mass. The Falcons posted a combined total of 345.700. Freshman Colton Wulf placed second in the all-around with a score of 86.500.
