Firefighters extinguished a blaze that started in a landfill and produced a black tower of smoke that could be seen for miles.

The South Adams Fire Department responded to a call at the BFI landfill at 8480 Tower Road, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s office.

The blaze took 15 minutes to extinguish and no injuries or damage were reported.

No structures were threatened during the fire.
