BOULDER, Colo.—A Boulder County agency has endorsed spending $30 million to buy agricultural land to preserve as open space.
The Longmont Times-Call reports that the county parks and open space advisory committee voted Thursday to recommend that the county commissioners approve buying 756 acres west of Longmont. Committee member Russell Hayes says while the price is high, the staff likely negotiated the best deal it could for the land long eyed by the county as open space.
The staff’s proposal says Boulder County could recoup as much as $10 million of the $30 million price tag by selling 88 acres of the property.
The county commissioners have tentatively scheduled a hearing on the purchase April 5.
