GYPSUM, Colo.—The Gypsum Town Council has approved two key agreements concerning geothermal exploration at Eagle County Regional Airport.

Flint Eagle LLC has proposed drilling an exploratory well about 4,000 feet deep in hopes of finding water that’s hot enough to use for heating or energy.

Since July, lawyers for the town and company have been working to sort issues of water, mineral and property rights.

The Post Independent reports that on Tuesday, the Town Council approved a geothermal access and surface use agreement that is essentially a land lease and royalty agreement, if a resource is found.

It also approved a thermal supply agreement that says the town will supply a heat exchanger that interfaces with its boiler, and Flint will bear other costs, if a resource is found.
