AURORA, Colo.—A police officer in Aurora is accused of sexually exploiting a 15-year-old runaway.
Police in the Denver suburb announced the allegations against officer Michael Mangino (Man-GENE’-oh) on Monday. He was arrested earlier in the day on suspicion of two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and other charges.
Authorities say the 29-year veteran is accused of a single incident involving the arrest of the 15-year-old girl.
Mangino turned himself in earlier in the day and was released on $20,000 bond.
Mangino is a former DARE officer who worked in several elementary schools. Police say there’s no evidence that he victimized anyone else but they’re asking the public to let them know of any possible abuse involving him.
