Ten civic leaders — including award-winning event planner Richard Rizzo; distance runner Creigh Kelley, whose BKB Ltd. is one of the nation’s premiere race managers, and Casey Rosen, owner of Blush, Ltd. — have begun their drive to be named Man or Woman of the Year by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Rocky Mountain chapter.

The winners are determined by the amount of money that they raise, and will accept their titles at a gala to be held May 20 at the Marriott City Center.

That event is being chaired by attorney Steve Farber and his wife, Cindy; sisters Tara and Kaily Smith and their parents, Michael and Iris Smith. The Farbers and the Smiths agreed to plan the coronation party as a tribute to Callae Brownstein and her brave battle with lymphoma.

Other contenders are Golden High School student Catherine Matous, whose father, Dr. Jeff Matous, is medical director of the Rocky Mountain Blood and Marrow Transplant Program; Don Cooper, president of The Sales Heretic; Quinn Washington, vice president of Blacktie-Colorado; Kevin Wong, managing partner and director of business development at Consumer Liaison; Glynis Albright, founder/CEO of Just Sweet Enough; Megan McEwan, promotions assistant at K-LOVE radio; and Marnie Miller, founder and president of Miller Housing Advisors.
