It will be a short week for Denver city workers because of a furlough day required to ease a budget deficit and a holiday honoring farmworker rights leader Cesar Chavez.

Friday is the second of five planned furlough days for the city this year. City officials estimate that each furlough day saves about $1 million from Denver’s general fund. The offices that are affected include the Mayor’s office, City Council, and most other city agencies and recreation centers.

Most city offices will also close Monday in observance of a holiday honoring Cesar Chavez, the late founder of the farmworkers’ union.

Parking at city meters is free on Monday in observance of Cesar Chavez Day.
