FirstBank, Colorado’s largest locally owned bank, has abruptly pulled its offer for free tickets to the Rockies home opener Friday as well as tickets that were to be handed out for Saturday and Sunday games as part of a promotion.
“Due to a miscommunication with Colorado’s baseball club, we found that we’re no longer able to give away free opening day/weekend tickets to the public,” FirstBank said today on its Facebook page. “Instead, we will be giving all 500 tickets to local nonprofits so that baseball fans who might not have a chance to go can experience the excitement of opening day. We’ll have future ticket giveaways of various kinds. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Around 10 a.m. today, FirstBank posted the mistake on its Facebook page, although one person with the public relations firm that represents FirstBank confirmed that all parties knew the ticket give-away plans fouled out Tuesday evening.
The PR firm representative declined to elaborate on what “miscommunication” occurred between FirstBank and the Rockies.
The tickets, instead, have been given to the Mile High United Way to distribute to various nonprofit organizations. The nonprofits will give the free tickets to recipients of their services
As part of a promotion, FirstBank had originally planned to surprise unsuspecting Denverites with free tickets at a series of public stunts.
The bank said it would offer hints as to where the stunts would take place on its Facebook page.
