The Arapahoe County coroner identified two men shot and killed in a shooting Thursday afternoon at an apartment in Aurora.
An autopsy performed early Friday morning concluded that Jovan Rivers, 30, and Harrell King, 33, died of gunshot wounds they sustained during the shooting.
The status of two other people who were shot during a confrontation at the apartment in the 900 block of South Dearborn Way has not been released. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition and were reported to have undergone surgery Thursday evening.
Friday afternoon, an Aurora police spokesman, Detective Bob Friel, said that since Jan. 1, police have had as many as 10 calls to the apartment where the shooting occurred.
On Thursday, Sgt. Cassidee Carlson, a police spokeswoman, said two men came to the apartment about 2:50 p.m.
“Investigators have information that leads them to believe that the two suspects who came to the door believed the two residents inside were medical-marijuana providers,” she said.
Aurora bans medical-marijuana grow operations, except for small-scale caregivers or for personal medical use.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence.
Carlson said more than one gun was involved.
A toddler who lives in the residence was not wounded, and police are looking for relatives to care for the child. Carlson said all the people involved in the incident have been accounted for.
Rivers had a long criminal history, mostly for drugs and escape. King had a criminal history dating to 1994 including previous charges of robbery and theft. He was awaiting trial in Denver on weapons and drug charges.
