BOULDER, Colo.—Sheriff’s officials say one person has died after a fiery glider crash in Boulder County, leaving a debris field covering an estimated 300 square yards.

Witnesses say the glider struck power lines and burst into flames around 5:15 p.m. Friday.

Sheriff’s Cmdr. Rick Brough (broff) says preliminary information is that the person was the only one on board. Authorities didn’t immediately identify the victim or the glider’s owner.

The glider crashed east of the Baseline Reservoir. Brough says the closest house was about 50 yards away, but several people saw the accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating.
