BOULDER — One person was killed Friday in the crash of a glider owned by a youth group in Boulder.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Rick Brough confirmed that the pilot was killed in the crash south of Baseline Road about 5:15 p.m., but no identity was released. Debris from the glider, which hit power lines and caught fire, was spread over 300 yards.

Federal Aviation Administration records list the single-seat glider as belonging to the Mile High Youth Gliding Association. The nonprofit group says its purpose is to “foster and promote all phases of youth gliding and soaring in Boulder.” It uses the glider partly to earn money for flight scholarships for pilots ranging in age from 13 to 25.
