HUGO, Colo.—A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday for investigation of murder after his great-grandparents were both shot in the head while in their bed last weekend, authorities said.
Deputies discovered the bodies of Chuck and Laura Clagett when they went to their home to let them know the teen had been injured in a car wreck on Wednesday.
Coroner Jennifer Nestor believes the Claggetts, who were both in their 80s, were killed Sunday night.
The Lincoln County sheriff’s office said the boy was taken into custody after being released from the hospital. His name was not released.
The boy had been living with the Claggetts.
The sheriff’s office said the boy would be taken to Lincoln County court and advised of two counts of first-degree murder.
Representatives of the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, which has been helping in the investigation, declined to comment on the case.
