Rescue crews have located two men who were caught in avalanche in Summit County this afternoon.

The avalanche took place near U.S. Highway 6 across from Arapahoe Basin Ski and Snowboard Area, according to Tracy LeClair, spokeswoman for the Summit County Sheriff Department.

Shortly before noon the avalanche partially buried both men in a backcountry area, LeClair said.

The Summit County Rescue Group located both men within an hour of the avalanche and they are currently being lowered out of the area on toboggans.

The men do not have life-threatening injuries, but one or both may have leg injuries, LeClair said.

What caused the avalanche and why the men were in the area was not immediately know.
