Kara Secora’s five goals and five assists Sunday weren’t enough to rescue the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team from a 16-15, three-overtime loss to Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn.

The 10 points by Secora, a sophomore from Kent Denver, rank No. 2 in DU history.

Quinnipiac led 6-2 after 12 minutes, but the Pioneers (3-9) scored six consecutive goals for an 8-6 advantage. After the Bobcats (6-3) rallied, Secora tied the score at 13-13 with 8:37 left in regulation.

Secora scored with 44 seconds left in the second overtime to extend the game to a third extra period. Lauren Matuszczak scored the winning goal for the Bobcats with 2:44 left in DU’s final nonconference game of the season.

The Pioneers open a three-game Mountain Pacific Sports Federation road trip Friday at Stanford.

UNC wastes 10-0 lead.

Northern Colorado’s baseball team blew a 10-run lead and fell to 3-20 with a 19-16 loss to New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M.

“They are game-tested and play hard,” New Mexico State coach Rocky Ward said of the Bears. “They’re going to win a lot of games in their league (Great West Conference). . . . Northern Colorado has played an absolutely brutal schedule and competed in all of them.”

UNC had season-high totals Sunday in runs and hits (21). The Bears opened the four-game series Friday with a 9-6 victory, but were swept in a Saturday doubleheader 15-8 and 13-4.

UNC took a 10-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning Sunday. The Aggies (22-6) scored four runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and seven in the sixth.

First baseman Ben Packard, a junior from Niwot High School, had five hits for the Bears. Right fielder Marcus Valenzuela, a senior from Monarch High School, contributed four RBIs.

UNC plays Tuesday at Air Force.

• The Air Force baseball team fell to 11-17 overall and 0-5 in the Mountain West Conference with a 10-5 loss at 15th-ranked Texas Christian (18-9, 5-1).

TCU finished with 16 hits and pitcher Steven Maxwell (4-0) held the Falcons to one run in seven innings.

Senior center fielder Nathan Carter and sophomore left fielder Alex Bast each had two of Air Force’s seven hits. Bast had two doubles.

Air Force resumes its MWC schedule Thursday with the opener of a three-game series against Brigham Young in Provo, Utah.
