GEORGETOWN, Colo.—People traveling across Colorado face long detours.
A 25-mile stretch of Interstate 70 in Colorado’s mountains will be shut down Tuesday so that crews can remove some potentially dangerous boulders on the mountainside above the road.
I-70 between Silverthorne and Georgetown will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If the work isn’t completed, the state transportation department plans to shut the highway again Wednesday morning.
The major detour routes are about four times as long—U.S. 40 at Empire Junction and U.S. 285 to Fairplay.
