The Colorado Petroleum Association is withdrawing a petition asking industry regulators to change how companies must dispose of pit liners that protect land from drilling fluids.

Association president Stan Dempsey said Monday his group will pursue the change through state health officials and counties instead.

Before 2008, Colorado allowed synthetic liners on nonirrigated crop land to be buried on site. Now they must be disposed of off site.
