Police are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who was found dead in Cañon City yesterday.

The boy, who lives with his mom in Buena Vista, was reported missing on Saturday after visiting his dad in Canon City during his spring break, Duane McNeill, chief of the Cañon City Police Department said.

The boy was found by search crews Monday afternoon in a hilly area known as the hogbacks near Skyline Drive.

“We have what appeared to be a perfectly healthy 15-year-old kid who suddenly died,” McNeill said. “We’re at a point where we still have some unanswered questions.”

Autopsy results are expected this afternoon and police hope they will shed some light on the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.

There were no outward signs of trauma, and at the moment police do not suspect any foul play, McNeill said.

Police have also pulled phone records to try and establish a timeline between when the boy arrived in Cañon City and when he died.

The boy’s name has not been released.
