A Logan County man has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and fined more than $3,500 for animal cruelty.
Gilbert Dean Schuman appeared in court Monday and was also sentenced to three years probation, according to a Logan County Sheriff’s Office media release. Schuman, 57, was sentenced on 14 counts of animal cruelty.
His fine totaled $3,861, the sheriff’s office said, and additional fines and jail time were suspended pending completion of probation.
During an investigation against Schuman about 80 bovine carcasses were found in various states of decay on his property. In addition, live cattle on the ranch were found in “poor” condition, the sheriff’s office said.
Staff from the Colorado Department of Agriculture assisted the Logan County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.
