Englewood today announced five finalists to replace Police Chief Tom Vandermee, who will retire May 6.

The finalists are:

  •  John Collins, deputy police chief in Englewood.

  •  Gary Creager, deputy chief in Arvada.

  •  Sean Kane, a captain with the Los Angeles Police Department.

  •  James Lorentz, division commander with the Wheat Ridge Police Department.

  •  and Troy Smith, deputy chief for the Grand Junction Police Department.

    An initial field of 66 was cut to 14. The five finalists will participate in a public reception April 13 at 4:30 p.m. at the Civic Center Community Room. The next day they will be interviewed by three panels.

    The final stage will be interviews with City Manager Gary Sears.

    “After a careful initial selection process by City staff and our consultants, I am confident that these five candidates are all highly qualified and each possesses the necessary skills and attitude to become Englewood’s next chief of police,” Sears said in a press release.
