ASPEN, Colo.—One person has died in an avalanche on the back side of the Highlands Ski Area near Aspen.

The Pitkin County sheriff’s office tells Denver’s KMGH-TV that five people were in the area when the slide occurred Monday afternoon. The sheriff’s office says the others located the fifth person and administered CPR, but the person didn’t respond.

The other four made it out of the avalanche area. The sheriff’s office says the body will likely be recovered Tuesday. Investigators are interviewing the survivors.

It’s unclear if the five were skiing, snowboarding or hiking.
