A Denver church is at the center of a yearlong investigation by ABC News’ “20/20,” in a report airing Friday at 9 p.m. on KMGH-Channel 7.

Elizabeth Vargas’ report on the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church explores the ultra conservative religious sub-culture which critics claim has fostered, and even covered up, physical and sexual abuse.

Denver’s Red Rocks Baptist Church and former congregant Jocelyn Zichterman are subjects of the report. (The church was called the South Sheridan Baptist Church at the time Zichterman attended.) Zichterman has been instrumental in making public criticisms of the church based on her own alleged abuse. “2-0/20” notes critics say the church teaches a strict interpretation of the bible including the practice known as breaking the will of the child, with some advocating that it be applied to infants as young as two weeks old.
