Todd Helton looks different. Nothing like a winter of P90X workouts. He’s stronger. His numbers are reflecting as much. He hit his first home run of the season, a moonball in the third inning off Chad Billingsley. It came in Helton’s 12th at-bat. Last season, he didn’t hit his first home run until his 116th at-bat. Said Helton: “I knew it was going to be either a sacrifice fly or a homer. I hit it pretty good.”
Contact problem.
Ian Stewart is struggling to get on track after injuries limited his spring training. He is 0-for-9 with five strikeouts.
Two for one.
Concern about Jose Lopez’s defense was muted after the opening homestand. He made several outstanding plays, including ranging far to his left for an out Wednesday.
