A 3-year-old child apparently drowned today after entering a decorative pond while his mother was visiting relatives, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
Lefthand Fire Protection District and other responders went to a yard in the 7600 block of 34th Court at about 2:20 in the afternoon. They found the boy in the pond, and he was not breathing or responsive after being pulled out. The boy was pronounced dead at the Boulder Community Hospital.
The child and his mother had been visiting relatives in the neighborhood, according to the sheriff. The child had been playing in the relative’s fenced-in yard but was able to get out. The child’s mother began searching for him with help from relatives, and saw him in the neighbor’s pond.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and Boulder County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death. The name of the boy was not released pending notification of other family.
