The PGA is coming back to Colorado, with an announcement Thursday that Cherry Hills Country Club will host the 2014 BMW Championships, The Denver Post has confirmed.
John Elway, who is the Cherry Hills club president, has a news conference at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday to make an announcement, but details were not released.
According to an e-mail that was obtained Monday by The Associated Press, members were informed of an outline of a contract to host the event from Sept. 4-7, 2014. It would be the third of the four-event FedExCup playoffs.
Since The International ended in 2006, Colorado has been without a big PGA event. Cherry Hills will host the 2012 U.S. Amateur. The U.S. Women’s Open is at the Broadmoor this July, and the 2013 Solheim Cup is at Colorado Golf Club in Parker. Last year, the U.S. Senior PGA Championship was at the CGC.
The Chicago Tribune first reported the championship, which has long been played in Chicago, was leaving for Cherry Hills.
