DENVER—Colorado is considering holding primary elections sooner, in June, to comply with federal voting requirements.
The state Senate gave preliminary approval Tuesday to a bill moving state primaries to the last Tuesday in June, instead of the second Tuesday in August. The change could put Colorado in compliance with a 2009 federal law designed to help service members and voters living abroad to vote.
The Senate must take a more formal vote on the measure before sending it to the House. If approved, the change would take effect for state elections in 2012.
