Spring fishing is beginning to heat up in southeastern Colorado, and the DOW is inviting anglers to learn the latest information affecting fishing waters around the region at two roundtable meetings next week.

“Anglers are getting their gear out to go after crappie, bass, wipers, walleyes, catfish and other warm-water species,” said Jim Ramsay, the DOW aquatic biologist for the lower Arkansas River Basin. “Based on our sampling results and incremental stocking, anglers in the southeast part of the state should be in for a good season.”

Since many of the reservoirs in the southeastern region are supplied by irrigation companies, water levels and fishing conditions can vary. The forums, planned for Pueblo on Tuesday and Colorado Springs on April 21, offer a summary of the best bets for fishing on lakes and streams and give anglers a chance to ask questions of DOW biologists. Other topics include stocking plans, regulations, zebra mussel boating restrictions, water levels, fish population data, fishing access, whirling disease and high-altitude lake management. Anglers are encouraged to bring questions about fishing their favorite lakes and streams.

Tuesday: 7 p.m. Lake Pueblo Parks Auditorium, 640 Reservoir Road, Pueblo

April 21: 7 p.m. DOW Office, 4255 Sinton Road, Colorado Springs.
