One person is dead after a multi-car accident on southbound I-25 tonight in Douglas County.

Colorado State Patrol received a report of an accident occurred at mile marker 189, just north of Castle Pines, at 8:23 p.m. Four vehicles were involved, including a semi truck, according to Trooper Nate Reid with the Colorado State Patrol.

The semi began experiencing mechanical problems and was attempting to pull over to the left shoulder when an SUV behind the semi hit the trailer. The female driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Two other sedans were then tangled up with the SUV. Two people in one of the sedans were transported to a nearby hospital with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

It has not yet been determined whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash or whether the driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt.

All southbound lanes of I-25 are closed and traffic is being diverted from Ridgegate to Castle Pines.
