The Fort Lewis men’s golf team shot an even-par 288 in the final round Tuesday and won the Wolf Pack Invitational at par-72 Walking Stick in Pueblo.

The Skyhawks finished the tournament at 4-over- par 868, seven strokes better than runner-up CSU- Pueblo. CU-Colorado Springs (876) finished third.

CSU-Pueblo’s Scott Wyers, a junior from San Diego, was the medalist at 5-under 211. Wyers had rounds of 65, 72 and 74. Fort Lewis’ David Schroeder and Colorado Mines’ Jim Knous tied for second at 3-under 213. Schroeder and Knous shot 67s in the third round.

Bullpen boosts Falcons.

Air Force’s bullpen pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, helping the Falcons rally to beat Northern Colorado 7-5 in a nonconference baseball game in Greeley. The Falcons (13-19) trailed 5-2 before scoring five unanswered runs against the Bears (5-24).

T.J. Berge, a senior second baseman from Dakota Ridge High School, had three of UNC’s 13 hits. He scored twice and drove in two runs.

Air Force sophomore catcher Garrett Custons went 3-for-5. Matt Thorne, a sophomore third baseman, had two RBIs for the Falcons.

Mercury pleased with Spears pick.

Phoenix Mercury president and general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale couldn’t be happier about Colorado’s Brittany Spears being selected 19th overall by the Mercury in the WNBA draft Monday.

“She was one of the players at the top of our list,” Meyers Drysdale said. “At 6-foot-1, playing in the Big 12, she’s so versatile. She can shoot the 3, gets to the basket, terrific rebounder, can block shots.”

Spears is the Buffaloes’ all-time leading scorer. She became the fourth CU player to be selected in the WNBA draft.

The Mercury has eight players signed to contracts, leaving three open roster slots. WNBA rules allow teams to have 15 players in training camp, which begins May 15.
