Boulder police are investigating an armed robbery near the University of Colorado campus just before midnight Monday — less than a month after University of New Hampshire football player Todd Walker was killed during a similar stick-up on University Hill.

A 20-year-old Boulder man told police he was walking south along the bike path on the west side of the 700 block of Broadway, and when he reached the pedestrian underpass that crosses under Broadway to the CU campus, a man stepped out and confronted him, police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said.

The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his wallet, according to Kobel. The man gave the suspect all the money he had on him and told police that the suspect then slammed him into a wall in the underpass and hit him in the face with the butt of the gun before running away, Kobel said.

The victim described the suspect as a black or Hispanic male in his 20s with almond-shaped eyes. He stood about 6 feet all and weighed about 200 pounds, Kobel said. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, dark jeans and tan boots.
