Poudre Fire Authority Fire Chief John Mulligan has announced he will retire after 33 years as a fire chief.

“I enjoyed my tenure here at PFA and am thankful to have worked with a great group of firefighters and chief officers,” Mulligan said in a press release.

Mulligan oversaw the consolidation of the Fort Collins Fire Department and the Poudre Valley Fire Protection District into the PFA in 1981.

Mulligan was also the chairman of the Hazardous Materials Committee for the International Fire Chiefs Association, president of Colorado Fire Chiefs Association and a member of the Uniform Fire Code Drafting Committee.

PFA said that they will begin conducting a nationwide search for a replacement.
