Officials say power has been restored to the Lincoln Memorial and nearby areas in Washington following an overnight outage.

A Pepco spokesman says power was restored early Wednesday.

The National Park Service said the lights went out at the memorials late Tuesday after an underground electrical cable was apparently damaged. The outage also affected the plaza area in front of the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and traffic lights at Independence Avenue and 23rd Street in southwest.
