The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a woman in southeast Denver this morning has been identified.

Marcello Ochoa Sanchez, 29, is accused of stabbing the woman in what police are investigating as domestic violence incident, Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department said.

Police were called about 7:25 a.m. to the 5000 block of East Donald Avenue on the disturbance, Jackson said.

Officers found the woman in the street outside the Ventana Apartments, which consist of several brick buildings that stretch the entire block. She had multiple stab wounds.

The victim was rushed to Swedish Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Sanchez was arrested at the scene. The name of the woman has not been released.

Jackson said it appeared an argument started in an apartment and the suspect followed the woman when she ran outside.

Two small children in the apartment did not appear to have physical injuries. They were put in the care of social service employees.

Jackson said police are investigating who lived in the apartment and the relationship between the victim and Sanchez.
