Few women’s wardrobes have undergone the scrutiny that Kate Middleton’s has received since her engagement to Prince William was announced last fall. Yet notoriously tough critics in the fashion world, as well as the hoi polloi, like what they see.
Despite a dalliance or two with trendiness — including donning a see- through outfit for a fashion show when she was in college — Middleton is solidly practical, yet chic. She chooses feminine looks like a Burberry coat with ruffled hem, camera-loving red suits, knee-high boots and quirky English hats.
And everyone wants to dress her.
We probably won’t know until her wedding day what designer was picked to dress her for the runway in Westminster Abbey. But to help us pass the time until April 29, we had longtime fashion illustrator Jim Howard create a Kate paper doll, and asked him and four other Colorado designers to make outfits for her. Grab some scissors and let’s play dress-up.
