
A 22-year-old Longmont man suspected of fatally shooting University of New Hampshire football player Todd Walker on University hill last month suggests in a videotaped statement to police that “some level of ‘defense of self’ was involved,” according to a motion filed by Boulder prosecutors this week.
In the motion, which Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett filed in response to a defense request to postpone the April 25 preliminary hearing for Kevin Michael McGregor, Garnett wrote that McGregor’s self-defense statement was “vaguely” suggested and does not constitute a good reason to delay the hearing.
“There is no reason why the defense cannot be fully prepared to proceed on the limited issues in a preliminary hearing,” Garnett wrote. “Delay for its own sake never serves the ends of justice, especially in a homicide case.”
