The proliferation of permits and public hearing notices tacked to downtown storefront windows these days is a sign of Louisville’s next wave of self-imposed economic stimulus.

No fewer than eight businesses are either opening for the first time or are in the midst of a major renovation or expansion of their spaces on or near Main Street in Historic Downtown.

Several of the new or reconfigured shops and eateries – including Creations Art & Gifts, The Porch Deli & Market and The Louisville Rex – promise May openings. Several others just recently flung open their doors – including Switch Boutique – or re-opened new and improved, such as B.O.B.S. Diner.

Melissa Williams, co-owner of Yoga Junction at 908 Main St., said the new energy on the street – both in terms of retail and restaurants – is “kind of rounding it all out” for residents and visitors to Louisville.
