SOUTH FORK, Colo.—Federal officials want to hear from the public as they review a proposal to swap federal land for acres owned by a Texas billionaire who has been trying for years to develop a village near the Wolf Creek Ski Area in southwest Colorado.
Open houses on the proposal are scheduled April 25-27 in Creede, Pagosa Springs and Del Norte.
The proposal would swap 178 acres owned by Clear Channel Communications Inc. co-founder Billy Joe “Red” McCombs for 204 acres of federal land that would connect his land to U.S. 160. The highway offers access to the ski area.
As an alternative, the U.S. Forest Service says it plans to also analyze a potential easement across national forest system lands.
The public’s comments could help develop other alternatives.
