“Canyon Crossing: Experiencing Grand Canyon From Rim to Rim” ($16.95, Grand Canyon Association) is an engaging read for anyone about to embark on a rim-to-rim hike — or perhaps resting up from a recent journey. Author and Flagstaff, Ariz., resident Seth Muller describes the canyon through the eyes of rangers, hikers, trail workers and others who spend their lives in or are visiting the canyon, and he gets down in there himself, contemplating the natural and human-influenced world below the rim. This isn’t a guide, but rather a thoughtful tribute to a space around which it’s hard to wrap one’s head. Kyle Wagner
