Zapata Ranch botanical trip.

The Denver Botanic Gardens hosts a trip to the Zapata Ranch, April 28-May 1. The 103,000 acre ranch, owned by the Nature Conservancy, is located near the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Learn about the history of the area, the uses of herbs, medicinal plants and edible weeds with daily evening programs. Susan Evans, a Denver Botanic Gardens instructor, will lead this trip. Cinco in La Junta.

The fifth annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration will be held April 30 in downtown La Junta. The event, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., will feature authentic Mexican cuisine, live entertainment, vendor booths, games, and a beer garden for adults. A 5K run/walk and treasure hunt will also be offered. or 719-384-5991

Junction jazz.

Downtown Grand Junction will come alive with jazz music performed by local and national artists, May 6-8, for the Art and Jazz Festival. Enjoy artist demonstrations and browse hundreds of artisan booths. This three-day festival also surrounds the reinstallation of Art on the Corner sculptures. or 970-245-9697
