KATSINA, Nigeria — Nigerians warily prepared Friday for a crucial presidential election today that will pit an accidental president against a slew of opposition candidates with ties to the oil-rich nation’s Muslim north.
President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the south, is the choice of Nigeria’s ruling party. Among the candidates challenging him is former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, who is gaining tremendous grass-roots support across Nigeria’s north.
