There’s big money seemingly everywhere in pro skateboarding these days. Street League Skateboarding, the idea of pro skater and MTV star Rob Dyrdek, left, is increasing its purse to $1.6 million for its second season and adding a $200,000 winner-take-all championship in Newark, N.J., on Aug. 28. The first three contests will pay $150,000 to the winner. They are May 7-8 in Seattle, June 11-12 in Kansas City and July 16-17 in Glendale, Ariz. Street League features 24 of the world’s top skateboarders. Nyjah Huston, 16, won the overall points title last year and earned more than $250,000.
