Northern Colorado’s football team completed spring camp with an intrasquad game Saturday in Greeley, and first-year coach Earnest Collins Jr. was pleased with what he saw from the rebuilding Bears.

“I thought the kids showed up for the last spring practice,” Collins said after the Blue team beat the White team 21-20 at Nottingham Field. “For the fans, it’s a game. But for us, it’s just the last practice. The kids did well. It was difficult for us to run a full offense and full defense since we split the teams.”

Five quarterbacks combined for 497 yards and three touchdowns passing. Seth Lobato, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound sophomore from Eaton High School, completed 12-of-20 passes for 203 yards.

Wide receiver Marcell Peoples, a redshirt freshman from Corona, Calif., caught 13 passes for 143 yards.

Chris Morris, a junior wideout from Burbank, Calif., had 10 receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown.

UNC’s defense had a total of 13 sacks. V.J. Holmes, a senior defensive end from Doherty High School, had four sacks for the White team.

The Bears’ season opener is Sept. 3 against Lindenwood in Greeley.

Buffs sign another Roberson.

Women’s basketball player Arielle Roberson has signed with Colorado.

Roberson is a 6-foot-1 forward. Her brother, Andre Roberson, plays for the CU men’s team.

Arielle averaged 18.2 points and 9.7 rebounds as a senior at Wagner High School in San Antonio.

“Arielle brings a lot to our team in terms of her versatility, toughness, competiveness, work ethic, energy and athleticism,” CU coach Linda Lappe said. “She can play on the perimeter or in the paint, which will make her a tough matchup for opposing teams.”

CSU golfers win tournament.

The Colorado State men’s golf team won the Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah, with a 17-under-par 847 total, beating runner-up UNLV by four shots. Pacific finished third among 18 teams, 10 shots behind CSU.

Kory Harrell, a sophomore from Air Academy High School who transferred to CSU from UNC, led the Rams by tying for fourth place. He shot a 5-under 67 in the final round and finished 7-under for the tournament. BYU’s Zac Blair was the medalist at 11-under.

Wyoming and Northern Colorado tied for 11th in the team standings. Air Force tied for 13th.

Eagles take control of CHL series.

Steve Haddon’s first hat trick and Andrew Penner’s stellar goaltending helped the Central Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles defeat the Missouri Mavericks 5-1 in Loveland and take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five Turner Conference semifinal series. Missouri scored with 1:48 left.

Game 3 is Tuesday in Independence, Mo.
