With only a few weeks of skiing left, destination mountain resorts in the U.S. will report a 6 percent boost in lodging occupancy for the 2010-11 season compared with last ski season, while lodging rates remain relatively stagnant.
Recent results from the Mountain Travel Research Program, or MTRiP, which surveys 265 property-management companies at 15 mountain-resort communities, “show continued resiliency among destination mountain travelers,” said MTRiP director Ralf Garrison.
Bookings for the next six months are up 3.1 percent, while rates are down 3.5 percent for that period, according to MTRiP.
